Apple Valley Gymnastics is a member of the USA Gymnastics (USAG) Junior Olympic (JO) program, a national program of competitive gymnastics through which all US Olympic Gymnasts are developed. It consists of Levels 1 though 10, followed by the Pre-Elite and Elite levels that are used to select the USA National Teams. Our preschool and recreation classes teach the skills and techniques found in Levels 1 and 2, with Level 3 being the first step in participating as part of the Apple Valley Competitive Team at USAG-sanctioned competitions.
Levels 3 through 5 are “Compulsory” levels consisting of routines on all four apparatus (floor, vault, uneven bars, beam). The routines at these levels are choreographed by USAG and performed by all gymnasts in the respective levels. Levels 6 through 10 are “Optional” levels in which the coach works with the gymnast to develop unique routines consisting of skills and techniques that fall within the guidelines established by USAG for each specific level.
At Apple Valley Gymnastics we build our competitive team through our recreation and pre-team classes, inviting the kids that have the physical and mental abilities to be able to participate in the competitive side of the sport of gymnastics. Currently, we have girls participating in Levels 3 through 8 at meets that occur during the winter months, all around the State and region.
The competitive team is supported by the Apple Valley Gymnastics Booster Club, made up mostly of parents of the team members who work hard to raise money to support the girls’ competition costs as well as costs for special camps and clinics. Each year the main fundraising event for the Booster Club is our annual Apple Cup Invitational, a competitive meet that is attended by gymnasts from other gyms in the State, including Ellensburg, Moses Lake, Spokane and Yakima. This meet is a open to the public and is a great opportunity to see the talented gymnasts that we have right here in our community!
